MPP BOM Maintenance brings the Bill of Materials object into SAP MDG's proven framework for large scale data maintenance: Consolidation and Mass Processing.
SAP delivers Consolidation and Mass Processing out of the box for Materials and Business Partners. With MPP BOM Maintenance, BOMs join them.
For your team, that means no new tool and no separate environment: BOMs are maintained with the same type of SAP Fiori applications they already use for their other master data objects.
The Process is Simple:
- Start where your team already works. Prepare the data in a structured Excel template, the same upload approach used for the other objects in SAP MDG Consolidation and Mass Processing.
- Hundreds of BOMs in one file. Headers, alternatives and components are read in a single pass, however large the run.
- Validate before anything is written. Every BOM is checked first. Errors are flagged per line, so you can correct them before a single change reaches SAP.
- Activate. MPP creates or updates the BOMs using SAP’s standard maintenance logic at scale, the same logic that applies in manual maintenance. Every standard SAP check applies, so your data stays consistent.
You follow the whole run in a clear process overview. If something fails, you see exactly for which BOM and why. You correct during the process run and retry that record while the rest is unaffected.

Which BOMs Are Supported?
MPP BOM Maintenance currently covers the Material BOM category. Within this category, all BOM usages configured in your system are supported (production, engineering/design, universal, plant maintenance, sales or costing), as are BOMs with multiple alternatives.
The other BOM categories are currently not in scope: equipment, functional location, document structure, order, WBS and standard.
